BLOT 12 Bennachie Commonty Division Summons, 1844

This document was recently gifted to the Bailies of Bennachie and transcribed by members of the Bennachie Landscapes Project. Alison Kennedy oversaw the editing of the transcripts.

The summons was produced in 1844 as a legal requirement for the division of the Commonty amongst the surrounding landholders, with further provisions being made for those other heritors who could prove a customary right of servitude on the Commonty. Tenant farmers of the heritors who previously had enjoyed customary rights as tenants lost those rights through the division.
